Family Child Development Center provides an environment that allows
children to grow and develop in a structured learning setting.
The children have a safe place to be with their peers during
the day.
The staff at FCDC has the children’s best interest at heart.
Many of the teachers have been there for many years.
I have worked with various staff members over the years and
have found professional, flexible and hard working people.
I
regularly visit FCDC to consult with teachers and offer supportive
services, as well as to facilitate social skill groups.
The FCDC program is also a part of the Wayzata School
District’s Learning Link Program, which provides scholarships for
children to give them an opportunity to participate in preschool.
FCDC is one of 4 community preschools to participate in this
program. It has been an important connection
between the school district and FCDC for over 10 years.
FCDC is a well-respected childcare and preschool facility.

I
recently completed a year of volunteer work in Boston’s childcare
centers, helping teachers and staff implement home-lending
libraries. On a recent visit to Minnesota, I
offered several volunteer hours at FCDC, to read stories with the
children. I was amazed at how wonderful the
program is at FCDC. From the director to the
teachers and the parents, everyone is very involved in the daily
growth of the children at the center. They have
a better-than-required teacher/child ratio.
There were always several teachers watching over and engaging the
children in the classrooms and on the playground.
All of the teachers do a wonderful job of creating curriculum
that enriches the children’s lives. Each
classroom has an abundance of age-appropriate books.
There are always many books on the bookshelves that the
children have access to, which is a critical factor in developing
early literacy skills in children. I have to say
that FCDC is a positive, warm, caring, enriching place for children
to spend their early childhood years!

Dear FCDC Board of Directors -
We both would like to thank you
and everyone at FCDC for taking such wonderful care of our children.
We've had a wonderful experience at FCDC and are sorry to have had
to make the move. My wife was in tears when she said goodbye to all
the FCDC staff. Now that we're in our second week at our new center
we have already noticed the difference. I realize you find a
certain comfort level in a place you've been at
for a long time which is probably why we're missing FCDC so much.
Our new center is nice but it seems to lack the personal touch we
grew accustomed to. While FCDC felt more like family, the new center
seems much more "business-like." Additionally, there is a strong
lack of organization and not nearly the level of communication back
to parents. Although we've only been there a short while, it really
makes us appreciate our experience at FCDC and it reinforces the
fact that we took for granted just how wonderful our time at FCDC
was. The little things the staff do truly make a difference even if
it's not always appreciated by the parents - at least until they
have to find alternative care.

Dear FCDC –
I am doing very good in kindergarten this year. I know all my
letters, my numbers, my vowels and have started reading. My mom
asked me how I know all of this stuff and I told her that I learned
it at my pre-school. Thank you for teaching me.
Love,
A former FCDC student (now in kindergarten)
