Childcare - Tiggers

Welcome to the Tigger Room!

The Tigger Room offers a wide range of creative activities for 4 to 5 year-old children to help enhance social skills, problem solving skills, cognitive development, creativity, motor skills and independence. Through teacher and self-directed activities, a child's natural method of learning, which is play, is emphasized.

The themes of curriculum change weekly. Some of the units explored are seasons, transportation, occupations, families, animals, holidays around the world and the states that make up America. In each of our lesson plans, we incorporate fun ways to learn letters, shapes, numbers and everyday skills.

Group time is one of the children's favorite activities. The children choose jobs they complete weekly that help maintain the classroom. We read books, have wonderful discussions, play games, sing songs and complete flannel stories. We also break up into learning groups so that curriculum can get more in depth with the children. The allows them more one on one time to master skills they are learning.

The social skills that we work on include playing cooperatively with others, making friends, following directions, utilizing words to solve conflict, using table manners and respecting the property of others.

We work on problem solving skills by using toys and equipment such as puzzles, and letter and number concept games like memory. The teachers also use lots of verbal communications and questions with each child.

Cognitive development takes place in the learning centers throughout the room and on field trips. We offer both large and small group activities which include social studies, math, science experiments, stories, daily music, nature, letters, shapes, word recognition, printing, phonics, functions of the human body, the five senses and safety.

Creative expression is encouraged through a wide range of art activities including process and product art (process art allows the child to create open ended art using a multitude of art mediums, whereas in product art the child creates an art project that relatively looks like the art produced by everyone else), dramatic play, problem solving activities, music, building with blocks and other manipulatives, puppet play, and story telling.

Tigger 2’s

The Tigger 2 afternoon kindergarten readiness class provides a natural progression from our morning classes for those children ready to experience a more academic program. The Tigger 2s build on their language skills with activities such as Harry and his journal, Author of the Month, Letter Bucket, letter recognition, patterns in words, rhyming, beginning letter sounds and pre reading activities. Math and science skills are explored as well (Surprise Box, graphing, estimation and science experiments). HomeLinks, independent learning activities done at home and brought back to share with the class are also enjoyed. The children will explore a variety of different cultures with our Tigger 2 Travels. Creative art expression is still offered, as well as children's literature, poetry, fingerplays and songs. As in all our programs, the children are developing their social skills, positive self concepts, and healthy emotional growth within the boundaries that encourage choices, discovery learning, and creative expression.

Special Days

On Mondays, we have Science Explorers. Children may learn about animals, nature, bugs, etc. There is a fee for this class that is paid by the parent.

Tuesdays is movie day. Each week a child is chosen to bring in a short ½ hour movie that is age appropriate or corresponds to the units we are learning about.

On Thursdays, we have the Growing with Music Program. Children will sing and may play instruments like the bongo drums. The fee for Growing with Music is included in the tuition.

The children love the variety that these special days add to our program!
